Hi
I have recently had to sort through some items left to me by my father and I found this. At first I did not know what it was and I was about to throw it away as I assumed it was obsolete but I was intrigued by the quality of the mechanism and wanted to know exactly what it is.
After finding this very helpful site, it appears to be a type II Curta, Manufactured in Feb 1966 - serial number 534537.
It makes sense that my father had it - he was training to be an accountant at the time and I think it may have been a gift to him from my grandfather.
It looks as if it has never been used - I cant find a single mark on the Curta itself - I think it has just been in its case since new.
The mechanisim feels perfect - very smooth and after watching a few Youtube videos on how to work it, it certainly calculates correctly!
There are a few very light marks on the plastic case it comes in and a small corner of the "Curta - Open" sticker has been lost.
Although I am facinated with this, I do need to sell it as it was left to both myself and my sister.
Before I put it on Ebay, I wondered if any collector wanted to make a sensible offer?
Happy to send pictures etc or if you are local, let you see it working (or I could post a youtube video).
Regards
Brian |
