Hello everyone,

I live in Bulgaria and while it is a beautiful place one could not reasonably expect to find a Curta here. While I have been dreaming of getting my own Curta for quite a while, just a few days ago I became the happy custodian of a Type II that was offered for sale in my town. This was unexpected because Curta calculators have never been officially imported into Bulgaria. After the Second World War we had to content ourselves with East German and rarely Soviet mechanical calculators. Probably because of this lack of local production, as early as 1965 Bulgaria began developing and making electronic calculators.

I suppose I would prefer a Type I if I had a choice, but I like very much my new Curta, which looks and works well. The only thing missing for my joy to be complete is the crank handle. I hope that someone would have a spare handle with a screw that I could purchase. I would greatly appreciate any help.

Here follow a few photos. Please, excuse my clumsy English and photography skills.

Vladislav

I wonder if my mentioning of electronic calculators in the previous post has dissuaded people from replying.

Anyway, I just want to report that thanks to a fellow collector I already found the missing handle, so my baby is finally complete. The handle is in excellent condition but I paid 40 Euros for it, which seems steep, at least to me. But since I didn’t pay much for the Curta in the first place, I found it palatable.

I’ll add some photos in about 10 days when I get back to town.
