More about the Base plate Curta Type 1...
Did you know?
For me it was a surprise to find out that there are two completely different Base Plates used.
The older one is number 10.028 "Base Plate" - the newer one is number 10.249 "Base plate complete".
Complete means it is built from two parts - 10.028 "Base plate" and 10.158 "Base plate label disc" -
glued together!
So, this explains the ugly base plates which are popping up sometimes at eBay ("no serial number", "unusual hole in base plate", ...).
They are simply base plates with lost label disc. The two screws don't hold the label disc in place. If the glue is no longer there the label disc falls away.

The switch from the old to the new version is also documented in the service manual (Step 12), above number 46729 (May 1961) Contina used the new version.
Maybe the two-part version was cheaper in production?
