I have a new curiosity for you: Does anyone know of or own a pair of Curtas with consecutive serial numbers?
By sheer coincidence I found two 1957 Curta Type I within two weeks. The first, 37338, I bought because it was in a very good state and I really liked it, and because the seller is a very reasonable and friendly person.
A couple of days later I stumbled across another one, 37339. I just had to buy it, if only for the number. Luckily the machine is quite good as well, so with a little help from Romano I'll have a nice pair of Curtas that were probably made on the same day 65 years ago and led completely different lives.
I know of the second one that it was initially bought far more than 30 years ago (probably new, but that can't be confirmed anymore) by a mathematician in in Germany near the Dutch border. The second one came from a collector in southern Germany near Austria.
So now they are together again, after 65 years, here on my desk. And I'd be really curious whether there are other constellations like this. |
