These cases are pretty spectacular. I can't think of another "salesman sample" type kit for an item this complex. I can only image it melting the brain of who ever the salesman was showing it to. |

Also curious if the base of the box is solid wood? (the sculpted pockets for the parts) Were they blow molding/ vacuforming things like this in the 50's ?? |

The mold for the individual parts is cloth covered wood - an exception is the mold for the Curta which is made of a soft material, it sounds like paper...
The material used is plywood, velvet and imitation leather. I don't know the exact technique of how to make the velvety material into the shape like that.
