Hi.
How many people have type 1 curtas with the word CURTA written on the side in small font?
Over the years I have have seen two machines like this 14736 and 17157.
A link is provided below that shows the difference in size between small font 14736 and normal font 38872 (both owned by me at the time).

What an interesting newly discovered variant... I did not know it.
I checked the serial numbers and found corresponding specimens in the range 13757 to 15859 (approx. 2100 specimens) and a small series from 17056 to 17258 (approx. 200 specimens). In this range there are also some Curtas with normal type size.
I also have a Curta in this range - 14390 - but it's a demonstration model, so I can't see the writing...

As usual you are a font of knowledge
May I ask how you determined which machines were likely to have the smaller writing? It would be pretty cool if you have access to original production records that detail every little variation..

Unfortunately I have no manufacturing data from Contina AG... The information is extrapolated from a friend's records (database).

Yes ... I spent some time seeking out pictures at the Curta.com.ar website.
What I do know for certain is that I sold 14736 years ago ... and then realized "hey, that was quite rare". It took me several years of looking before I found another (17157).
On this basis I don't think we can necessarily assume there was any sort of consistent production run where they applied the small font.
.... tricky business, this collecting game

Well, I think 2100 units is a decent amount for this variant with smaller font. It's normal for a batch to always have some deviation, especially when you move on to another variant.
An example of another smaller regular lot:
"The baseplate with parallel lettering" with only 1000 pieces (or also "Base plate with parallel lettering with Type I" with 2100 pieces)
