|
Hello,
I just finished the restoration of my curta type 2 SN 500713 (see my last topic "presentation").
The ten carry mechanisms of this machine were in very bad condition: stuck, levers bent, and several springs broken.
I manufactured special tools, to:
- Disassemble the curta ;
- Manufacture transmission shafts clips ;
- Correct the two types of ten carry levers bending ;
- Manufacture ten carry springs (specifics on early models).
A complete test of the machine today showed it now works perfectly.
Greetings from France !!

Congratulations on your achievement.
I, only dare with mechanical calculators weighing more than a kilo, like the one in the photo.

Hello Rapa, thanks for your congratulations.
I began with tall calculators too : I've got a Schubert AR, a Brunsviga 10, and a Hamann manus R.
My collection missed a Curta, so that's done ! |

Dangerous territory, be warned ... Curtas are gregarious and yearn for the company of other Curtas.
A couple of years ago, I bought a beautiful, like-new grey Type II, and I remember well thinking "That's done!" at the time. Then I thought that the first one was too good to play with it, so I bought an "everyday use" Type I.
Then I saw one of the late black Curtas that apparently were never sold, again like new. I couldn't resist.
My everyday Type I being a late model, with Delrin crank and plastic clearing ring, I casually looked for another, older Type I with all-metal parts. Found one, bought it. Finally done!
A couple of days I saw its sibling, one serial number further down the line. That was a rare chance, I thought, so I bought it. Drove a couple of hundred kilometers to get it as the seller wouldn't ship. Well, that was the last one for sure!
Almost. The seller had another one, an early grey one with the red-red-red-black-black-black color scheme. And it was really cheap, in spite of being near-perfect. OK, so that was the last one.
All went well until I saw a beautiful early Type II in black, which called out for me to buy her. One last time! Promised!
Apart from the accident with the early type I of course. I was looking for something entirely different on eBay, and that devious machine just popped up against my will, I swear!
I'm clean now, really. No more Curtas. Never again! |
