...
Here is my information: It was ebay item 6105620213. I was the "winner". I paid in full for the item, its insurance and shipping and tracking. And it was never sent. Ebay itself has not been of any help...I did initially go through their channels.
There are quite a few clues that this was a bogus auction, and I did not pay enough attention to them. (I do NOT need a lecture from anyone...I've already learned my lesson!)
Here's what should have caught my attention before I sent the money to the seller: The seller plagarized the description almost verbatim from a May 4, 2004, ebay Curta auction. Seller had a very small number of feedbacks, and a 50 % rating. One of the feedbacks was very negative. The bidders' IDs were "kept private". Seller claimed to be in UK and turned out to be in Indonesia. His email communication English was not at all as good as his auction description. Seller claimed his job was causing him delays. He turned out to be quite a liar. Seller would not use a protected payment system. Seller did not include the Curta's serial number...and other red flags!
Leigh, would you please post this for me? I think the Curta community would be very well served to learn about this.
