I'm interested to know if anyone has suggestions on methods of preserving/extending the life of the white O-ring on the canisters?
Specifically, is there something one may soak it in or treat it with?
The color (or discoloration, as the case may be) of the O-ring is a separate issue, but I'd be open to hearing thoughts on "whitening" them up too.
Treatment to whiten them up, however, may result in weakening them in the process. (I've heard stories of folks who get that teeth whitening treatment and are then forever sensitive to cold foods due to, supposedly, the compromising of tooth enamel which thins in the process.)
Applying this logic to the O-rings, a process of which I won't try, is a soak in diluted bleach solution. But bleach being extremely caustic, I'm not going down that road. And I don't know its long term effects on rubber (brittleness?)
As an aside, I've found "exact" replacements for them -- but black in color only. Very high quality though.
Thanks,
