Hi all

I only became aware of Curtas at all just a week ago and things have moved on a lot faster than I intended!

I was wondering about a Type 2, but yesterday there were 2 Type 1s being auctioned at Bonhams and I bid what I thought was a low amount without seriously expecting to get one, it being my first time and all. Yet I ended up getting this one (67928)
http://www.bonhams.com/auctions/22831/lot/69/

There were 2 being sold and they both went for the same hammer price.  I bid less on the other one (http://www.bonhams.com/auctions/22831/lot/68/) as the condition report said it was 'scratched on the base but otherwise in working order,' whereas my one said 'in good working order'.

Interestingly, the instruction book seems to say there should be 3 decimal point pips on the base, although there is clearly only 1 hole for one on the base of mine and the pip on the base of my one appears to have fallen out in any case. There is also what appears to be a few scratches, plus a protruding screw and a missing one on the handle. I've taken pics but can't seem to attach them to this otherwise I would - perhaps it's because I've posted fewer than 5 times on this forum.

Have I made an expensive mistake?

Mark

For £312? If it were mine that would be my cheapest Curta, good for you. With respect to scratches etc., you bought it for £312, mint-condition examples go for a bit more, enjoy it! I have one on my desk used frequently and it's a delight.
