Hi all,

can anyone tell, if this CURTA is an original cut away, or if it's a fake?

http://www.ebay.de/itm/Schnittmodell-einer-Rechenmaschine-CURTA-Typ-I-Calculator-/291567527646?hash=item43e2c766de

Regards

Sebastian

Fake is a hard expression - it is a beautiful handcrafted cut away model. But it is not made by Contina AG.
Contina never anodized the parts golden. The clearing plate has never been cutted.

The description of the offered model is correct - no hints to "original Contina" or similar.

There is no historical value (or collectors value) - but the value of a nice Curta plus the hours of mechanical work... It's up to you to estimate.

Also Curta Type II were never cutted by Contina.

Hi Sebastian,

This Curta was previously sold on eBay as a "regular" Curta in May 2015. This cut away is not original but the result is beautiful and, as Murff said, there is no reference of manufacturer originality. This ad may look fake, but it is a nice work made to create this spectacular version.

During the last 5 years there was around 10 to 15 cutaway Curtas sold on eBay in gold and red colors based on regular Curtas.

Kind regards,

Alfredo
