Every time I think I know all there is to know about something, someone comes along and shows me something completely new. So these are result register quick setting dials on a very old type I? I can imagine that it seemed like a good idea until someone tries to use them mid calculation, on purpose or accidentally as they turn the crank. I can imagine these being installed as a proof of concept, like the silencing springs, until it became obvious that the safety features of the Curta did not need loopholes.

It's a Curta Type II prototype...

Curta Type 2a - Prototype P-004 | Curta Type 2a - Prototype P-005

Cool

Yes, confusing to anyone who hasn't taken a deep dive like you have on curta.li! It made me look out my older machines because I hadn't noticed it on any of mine, ha. Well done sir
