Suttner's Office Equipment
It's time for the Suttner's Curta to move to the History category.... (see this thread).
The Curtas of the general agent "Suttner's Office Equipment" are amazing for two reasons.
Suttner is one of the first general agents for Curta calculators - already in 1950 - and in Johannesburg, South Africa. How did this contact between Contina AG and Suttner's Office Equipment (or between Herzstark and Suttner) come about? Unfortunately, nothing is known about this at present, nor are any documents from Suttner's company known (advertising, invoices, ...).
Why was Suttner allowed to engrave his company info on the case of the Curta? With complete text: SOLE S.A. AGENTS - SUTTNER'S - P.O. BOX 6490 JOHANNESBURG. There are no other examples - perhaps still comparable with the more discreet INNOVA label on the underside of the base plate and some stickers on Curta canisters.
Also known is the address of the company: Suttner's Office Equipment (Proprietary), Limited, Manlin House, 17 Harrison Street, cor. Marshall Street, Johannesburg.
Known Suttner's Curta Type 1: 5099, 6142, 11255, 13090, 13274, 36495 - Curta Type 2: 500144, 500161
Otherwise, there is still little information about Suttner's Office Equipment in Johannesburg - perhaps someone can tell us more....
