I personally find filling out customs declarations confusing.

Where exactly is the problem? Of course, a form is more or less demanding to fill out, depending on the country... Go to the nearest post office and let them explain you the necessary form or you can fill it out together. I think USPS will be able to help you, you are not the first one who sends a parcel abroad...
