Hi,

I just picked up my first curta, it's a type II.
Addition and multiplication seems fine but subtraction and division is a bit off. I tried subtracting 1 so all the dials read 9, then add 1, the results dial (black) seems fine but the counter (sliver) does not, it shows 99999000, then if I subtract some more I can see the 5th and 8th digits moving. Also, if I set the counter to 99999999 and try to add 1, 10, 100, 1000 etc, I can see the correct digit move and it rolls over only the next 2 digits to the left but no more.

I don't really want to take it apart but does anyone know what the problem could be here?

Or if there's a good place that would service/fix in the UK?

Most likely, your Curta has errors in the tens transmission area. This is not easy to fix even with good knowledge of the Curta. The reasons can be different - ideally it is just some dirt, but it can also be a mechanical defect.

The only address for a solid repair is Romano's Curta service: http://www.curtaservice.it/

No UK service known...
