Road Rally

Because classic road rally rules prohibit the use of electronic devices, the Curta was popular for calculating time, mileage, and other factors that enter into rally racing.

Since the Curta can be operated by feel, even while driving, the Curta is a natural fit for the rally set. The Curta has the additional advantage that, if the rally driver makes a mistake, he can simply flip the reverse lever, pull the handle up, and perform the calculations again to reverse them back to the previous point.

Here are some articles about use of the Curta in rallies:

A news article about the Curta in racing -- with a video clip (if you can configure RealMedia?...)
A brief article translated from The LiechtensteinerVolksblatt?, 1989.
